What is a passkey?

With a passkey you sign in to My Amdax using your face, your fingerprint or your device PIN. No password, and no code from your authenticator app.

A passkey is a digital key stored on your device or in your password manager. When you sign in, you confirm it's you with your face, fingerprint or PIN. That is the whole sign-in.

Here's why it works differently from a password. A passkey exists in one place only and is tied to Amdax. You can't reuse it on another site, you can't enter it on a phishing page by mistake, and it can't be guessed. The part that proves you are you never leaves your device.

Your password and two-factor authentication (2FA) stay in place. You need them to create a passkey, and you can always sign in with them when your passkey isn't at hand.

Where can you store your passkey?

You decide where your passkey goes, together with your device or browser. While you create it, you'll see the options available to you at that moment. These are the most common ones:

iCloud Keychain, on an iPhone, iPad or Mac. Your passkey works on every Apple device signed in to the same Apple account.
Google Password Manager, on Android and in Chrome. Your passkey works anywhere you're signed in with the same Google account.
Windows Hello, on a Windows PC. This passkey stays on that one computer.
A password manager such as 1Password, Bitwarden or Dashlane. Your passkey then works on every device where you use that manager, including a mix of Apple and Windows.
A physical security key, a YubiKey for example. You plug it into your USB port or hold it against your phone. The key never leaves the device itself, so you always need it in hand to sign in. This is the strictest option: lose the key and that passkey is gone with it.

You can have several side by side. Useful if you use, say, an iPhone and a Windows laptop that don't sync with each other, in which case you create a passkey on each device.

Your settings show where each passkey is stored, when you created it and when you last used it.
