DAC8 is a European directive that brings more transparency to crypto-assets. The directive requires crypto service providers, such as Amdax, to report certain information about customers and transactions to the tax authorities. This information can then be shared between tax authorities within the EU.
DAC8 is an extension of earlier DAC directives and focuses specifically on crypto, because crypto has so far been less visible to tax authorities.
Since when does DAC8 apply?
Since 1 January 2026. From that date your transactions fall under DAC8 and we process your details for that purpose.
What does DAC8 mean for me as a customer?
We have to share certain information about your identity and transactions with the tax authorities. This helps them meet tax obligations in the EU.
Do I need to provide anything?
Yes, your account needs a tax declaration. If you are a private customer and have not submitted it yet, you will see the message 'Action required' on Home. Business customers complete the declaration in Tax details.
I see 'Get started' or 'Start declaration'. What should I do?
That button opens your DAC8 tax declaration. In the app the button is called 'Get started', on the web it is called 'Start declaration'. Tap or click it and complete the declaration.
Where do I find my tax details?
- In the app: go to More and tap Tax details under Account. Make sure you use the latest version of the app.
- On the web: click your name at the top right, choose Account details and open the Tax details tab.
How do I submit my tax declaration as a private customer?
Enter your tax residence, your BSN or tax identification number and your date of birth. Confirm that the details are correct and choose 'Submit declaration'.
How do I submit the tax declaration for my company?
Business customers also complete the declaration online, in Tax details. This online declaration replaces the self-certification form (PDF). Your progress is saved automatically. You fill in:
- your company's country of tax residence and tax identification number (TIN; for a Dutch company the RSIN, not the Chamber of Commerce number). A VAT number is usually not accepted;
- the DAC8 / CARF classification: whether your entity is an Excluded Person and whether it is an Active Entity;
- the controlling persons (UBOs) of your company, with their name, date of birth, country of tax residence and tax identification number;
- the details of the authorised signatory: the person who confirms the declaration on behalf of your company.
Then confirm the statements on behalf of your company and submit the declaration. If company information is missing, you will be asked to complete it first. Your company declares its own classification. Amdax does not assess it and does not give tax advice. If you are unsure, consult your own tax advisor.
Is my company an Active Entity or an Excluded Person?
Your company declares this itself in the tax declaration. Amdax does not assess the classification and does not give tax advice. If you are unsure, consult your own tax advisor.
I am a tax resident in more than one country. How do I report that?
Add another country of tax residence while completing the declaration. Already submitted the declaration? Then report the additional country to a member of our team, via 'Contact us' in Tax details.
How do I change my tax details?
Has something changed, for example your tax residence or your company's classification? Then you are required to tell us within 30 days of the change. Report the change to a member of our team, via 'Contact us' in Tax details.
Does DAC8 affect my trading or my holdings?
No, your ability to trade does not change. DAC8 is about reporting, not about restrictions or taxes imposed by Amdax.
Does DAC8 affect the tax treatment of crypto for users?
For crypto users, nothing changes in the tax treatment of crypto. The exchange of information by the tax authorities does not automatically mean that a user owes tax. Whether tax is due depends on the personal situation. Users remain responsible for correctly declaring their crypto holdings to the tax authorities.
